Dear NGO Representatives, Please find below some information concerning the High-level meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action. The President of the General Assembly of the United Nations will convene a High-Level Meeting to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action on 22 September 2021 at the UN Headquarters, New York, pursuant to General Assembly resolution (A/75/L.128). The event will be held under the theme “Reparations, racial justice and equality for people of African descent” and will consist of an opening and closing plenary meetings, as well as two consecutive round tables which will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 to 5 p.m. The proceedings of the high-level event will be webcast live on UN WebTV. The Registration deadline is today Friday 17 September 2021 at 5.00 p.m, New York time. In accordance with General Assembly resolution, representatives of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council are invited to participate in the high-level meeting, as appropriate, in the following meetings: (a) the opening plenary meeting; and (b) roundtable meetings. *This indication does not guarantee a speaking opportunity. Only a limited number of representatives from relevant organizations, selected by the President of the General Assembly in accordance with resolution 75/320 will be contacted in due course. Resolution 75/320 envisages the participation of a representative of non-governmental organization in the opening plenary meeting (OP2) subject of PGA selection and in the round tables (OP7) for those selected which are actively engaged in combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, such as youth and community organizations and indigenous peoples’ representatives and institutions, taking into account the principles of transparency, inclusivity, including gender balance, and geographical representation.
