The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for countless communities around the world. Many millions of people are being left behind suffering massive loss of health, employment and economic opportunities as well as significant challenges around education, biodiversity and gender equality.
In the NGO Major Group side event, we will highlight local efforts and good practices that can serve as inspiration and models for others. We will place particular focus on hearing experiences from diverse civil society organisations from around the world to share their views on an equitable and sustainable recovery. There will be a wide range of examples of local activists and key organisations working on the areas of education, gender equality, biodiversity and partnerships. The panellists will furthermore explore the holistic nature of the 2030 Agenda to ensure that we learn the lessons of the pandemic to ensure harmony between people and the planet.
The session will also feature a keynote speaker from UNDP, who will highlight ways to showcase community action in the upcoming Global Week of Action for the SDGs in September.
