24th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion [call for abstracts]

Under the conference theme “Promoting policies for health, well-being and equity”, the Call for Abstracts is now open for the 24th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion – IUHPE 2022, being held in Montréal (Québec) Canada and in hybrid format from 15 to 19 May 2022. Submissions can be made in English, French and Spanish.

We invite all abstract submitters, including individual contributors, to interact and collaborate with other presenters and participants wherever possible. Participatory, collaborative and non-traditional session formats will be given priority in the selection process.

Abstracts can be submitted in eight different formats: 1) symposium, 2) workshop, 3) research oral/poster presentation, 4) innovation in policy and practice oral/poster presentation, 5) round table discussion, 6) alternative showing/new technology, 7) alternative showing/art, and 8) lunch with an author. The deadline to submit an abstract is Friday 17 September 2021.

Registration and hotel reservations for the 24th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion will open in May.

What’s Next on Financing for Development (FfD)? Reflections and Mapping a Way Forward

As the Financing for Development Forum comes to a close this week, the FfD process cannot afford to be locked into agreed calendar dates when the world is faced with an unprecedented and unpredictable crisis. There remains a concerning mismatch between the scale of challenges facing us and the inability of the current FfD process modalities to generate the necessary political consensus for the ambitious decisions that are urgently required.

In the context of the current multi-layered global crisis, agreeing on the next FfD conference would be crucial to work towards consensus on a global economic system that could foster systemic reforms while promoting human rights, gender equality, social equity and environmental justice. However, with the decision on where and when to hold the next conference being postponed to next year, it is imperative to explore new modalities to further advance the FfD Follow-up process. This side event will catalyse much-needed reflections on the informal and formal FfD discussions that have unfolded so far and map a way forward.

On 11 March 2021 people of faith and conscience all around the world are kicking off organizing for the biggest-ever faith-climate day of action, all at the grassroots.

In places of prayer and households around the globe, we are joining together to call for climate leadership guided by compassion, love, and justice. In Chile alone, there are more than 15 actions taking place in Santiago and around the country. Churches are ringing their bells, and other places of prayer and meditation are sounding the alarm for action on climate change.

Energy: 100% renewable, clean energy for all! Sustainable, affordable power for everyone – especially the 800 million people without access to electricity

Employment: Jobs and healthcare for all! A just transition for workers impacted by climate change through job training, living wage and universal healthcare and insurance
Self-Determination: Respect Indigenous Rights! A strong defense for the legal rights of Indigenous communities and all environmental protectors
