2022 SDG Investment Fair

World Bank + IMF Annual Meetings

The 2021 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund will take place from Monday, October 11, through Sunday, October 17. All public and by-invitation-only events—including the Program of Seminars and other public events, ministerial meetings, CSO engagements, and press conferences—will be virtual and accessible on World Bank digital platforms. To accommodate time-differences, events may take place outside of the principal week.

At the heart of the Annual Meetings are the Annual Meetings plenary speeches, the joint World Bank Group/IMF Development Committee, and the IMF International Monetary and Financial Committee. Other featured events include regional briefings, press conferences, and fora focused on the global economy, international development, and the world’s financial markets.

UNCTAD Trade and Development Board 32nd special session

The thirty-second special session of the Trade and Development Board will start on Monday, 6 September 2021 in hybrid format. The session will open at 10 a.m. in room XVIII of the Palais des Nations, Geneva. The provisional agenda for the session, together with the secretariat’s annotations thereto, will be contained in document TD/B(S-XXXII)/1.

Nominations and participation

Registration should be completed online and is required in order to be included in the list of participants. To register, please use the following link: Thirty-second special session. Other participants (i.e. representatives of members of UNCTAD that are not members of the Board and representatives of specialized agencies, non-governmental organizations and intergovernmental bodies wishing to attend as observers) are also eligible to participate in the session as observers and should register online by the same date using the link above. Twenty-First Session of the Working Group on the Right to Development

Development is a Human Right: The twenty-first session of the Working Group on the Right to Development

3-7 May 2021, Ariana 1, Palais des Nations, Geneva, due to the COVID-19 pandemic

At this session, the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Right to Development will continue to review progress made in the implementation of the right to development.

It will hold an interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the right to development and consider contributions made by States and stakeholders to the implementation of the right to development.

The Working Group will also commence the elaboration of a draft legally binding instrument on the right to development.

Accreditation

UN Member and Observer States, specialized agencies and other international organizations, national human rights institutions with “A status” accreditation, and NGOs with ECOSOC consultative status may participate in the Working Group.

All participants are required to register using the registration form for the 21st session of the Working Group.

[UN Observance] World Children’s Day 2020: A Day to Reimagine the Future

World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.

World Children’s Day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children’s rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children. This year is extra special. It’s the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, time to celebrate and a time to demand action for child rights.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the Climate Emergency: ‘Flatten the Curve for Climate Change’

Join UNESCO for a global series of online workshops on how to transform society through learning with Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), launching in September 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a tragic impact on human life around the world: killing hundreds of thousands of people, causing global economic decline and school closures in over 180 countries. ESD reassesses what we learn, where we learn and how we learn to ensure we develop the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that enable us to make informed decisions and actions on global problems such as the climate crisis and the COVID-19 crisis.

Transforming learning to transform societies towards sustainability is the aim of the ESD for 2030 framework. This roadmap for ESD in 2020-2030 will be officially launched at the UNESCO World Conference on ESD taking place on 17-19 May 2021, in Berlin, Germany. In the lead-up to the World Conference, UNESCO invite you to a series of ESD online workshops in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany, and with the German Commission for UNESCO as advisory partner. The discussions and results from the series of online workshops will be used to further develop the conference program and help shape the agenda in Berlin next year.

Feb. 10, 2021, will be the 5th session in the series. The theme will be “ESD and Climate Emergency: Bend the curve for climate change”

This online workshop will raise the parallels between the pandemic and climate emergency and discuss how the lessons learned from the public response to the Covid-19 crisis can help ‘flatten the curve of climate change,’ in particular through ESD’s contribution.

The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), in collaboration with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) is organizing this webinar as a side event at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2020.

This session will make the case for accelerating action for an inclusive digital transformation to deliver on the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, the SDGs and response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The adoption of meaningful digital technologies and solutions, ICT infrastructure and leveraging South-South and triangular cooperation will be key to addressing the existing digital divides in developing countries.

Following the presentations from the panelists, there will be a Q&A session during which it will be possible to ask questions and further discuss lessons learned.
