5th UN OCEAN FORUM
3–5 March 2025. Room XIX, Palais des Nations, Geneva
Join us at the 5th UN Ocean Forum, a global event uniting government, trade and environment experts, as well as industries, civil society to shape the future of our ocean economy.
The Ocean Economy: A Fast-Growing Sector at Risk
The ocean economy has expanded 2.5 times since 1995, outpacing the global economy’s 1.9 times growth. However, its rapid development, including the expansion of ocean-based trade, presents critical governance gaps that must be addressed to ensure sustainability, climate resilience, and the protection of marine biodiversity and livelihoods.
At the 5th UN Ocean Forum, key stakeholders will convene to discuss and propose concrete trade-related measures and calls for action to secure the future of our oceans.
Key Outcomes:
A set of coherent policy recommendations and actions on trade-related aspects of SDG 14 (Life below water).
Direct input into discussions at the UN Ocean Conference (Nice, June 2025).
Contribution to the UNCTAD 16th Ministerial Conference (October 2025).
Special Feature:
Marine-based Products and Services (MAPS) Expo
Running alongside the Forum, the MAPS Expo will showcase 14 exhibitors from international organizations to private manufacturers of sustainable marine-based products and services.
The third floor of the Palais des Nations will be transformed into a vibrant “Ocean Economy” hub.
Co-Organizers and Partners:
The Forum is co-organized by UNCTAD in partnership with UNDESA, FAO, UNEP, DOALOS, the Commonwealth Secretariat, OACPS, and the International Oceans Institute (IOI).
It is co-sponsored by France, Costa Rica, Portugal, and the United Kingdom (FCDO).
