Multilingualism Thematic Meeting

The NGO Committee on Language and Languages and the Study Group on Language and the United Nations together with the Permanent Missions of Andorra, Burundi, Canada, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, and Spain and the Permanent Observer Mission for the International Organization of la Francophonie will hold a special meeting with the theme of Building Common Understanding through Multilingualism.
The four-hour meeting will take place in a virtual environment to maximize opportunities for participation globally. The President of the General Assembly and other senior leaders, Member States, Representatives of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors and of the Group of Friends of Spanish, Observer Missions, UN entities, ECOSOC-accredited civil society organizations with a focus on multilingualism, and scientific experts will deliver statements in relation to the aims of the thematic meeting.
The meeting will take place on 12 June 2023 from 09:00-13:00 EDT/New York via Zoom. Interpretation in the six official languages of the United Nations will be organized by the NGO Committee on Language and Languages using volunteer civil society interpreters. Esperanto interpretation will be provided by the Universal Esperanto Association.
Interested individuals from UN entities, civil society, academia, intergovernmental organizations, among others may register to observe the meeting by completing this general registration form no later than 9 June. The concept note is available in English, French, and Spanish below.
