Webinar: UN 2020: Enhancing Peace, Disarmament & the Role of Women
We cordially invite you to UN 2020: Enhancing peace, disarmament and the role of women, a webinar on June 24 which commemorates the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Charter and 20 years of action on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, peace and security.
The webinar follows-up on Human security for public health, peace and sustainable development, an international appeal of 250 women legislators, religious leaders and civil society leaders from 50 countries. The appeal focuses on the increased importance of disarmament in a world impacted by COVID-19, and supports United Nations’ initiatives for peace and disarmament including the global ceasefire initiative and the UN Secretary-General’s Agenda for Disarmament.

Fabrizio Hochschild-Drummond (United Nations), Hon Maria Espinosa (World Future Council, President 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly), Ms Gabriela Cuevas Barron MP (President, Inter-Parliamentary Union), Baroness Sue Miller (PNND Co-President), Dr Hedy Fry MP (OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Special Rep on Gender Issues), Ms Divina Maloum (Co-winner, 2019 International Children’s Peace Prize), Ms Elizabeth Warner (Ploughshares Fund and Women’s Initiative), Rep Carol Ammons (Member Illinois State Assembly and the Women Legislators’ Lobby), H.E. Ann-Sofie Nilsson (Sweden Ambassador for Disarmament and Non-proliferation) and Ms Holly Near (singer, song-writer).
The webinar will highlight the inspiring roles of women in peace and disarmament, and discuss concrete and effective ways to achieve UN objectives to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war and to turn swords into ploughshares.
The event is co-chaired by Ms Kehkashan Basu (UAE/Canada), Youth Ambassador for the World Future Council and Winner of the 2016 International Children’s Peace Prize, and Mr Jonathan Granoff (USA), President of the Global Security Institute and UN Representative for the Permanent Secretariat of Nobel Peace Summits.
It will include a special guest performance by Holly Near (USA), acclaimed singer, song-writer, actor and founder of Redwood Records.
