[Virtual Launch] 2020 Development Cooperation Forum Survey Study

You are invited to participate in the virtual launch / webinar of the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) Survey Study on Friday, 10 July 2020 (8:00 – 9:45 am, New York time). The event will take place alongside the 2020 High-level Political Forum.

The 2020 DCF Survey Study takes a fresh look at the enablers of effective development cooperation and their potential import in COVID-19 response and recovery.

This virtual launch welcomes all stakeholders, including survey participants, experts and civil society representatives, to begin engaging on key findings of the latest DCF Survey.

Participants will discuss the practical recommendations generated by the study and how they can assist policy makers and practitioners in recovery efforts from the pandemic, in a way that advances risk-informed and climate-smart development cooperation.

Massive Online Open Course: Stakeholder Engagement for 2030 Agenda Implementation

Massive Open Online Course (MOOC): Strengthening stakeholder engagement for the implementation and review of the 2030 Agenda

A partnership between the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) of UNDESA and UNITAR, this Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) aims at reaching out to a high number of governmental officials and other stakeholders such as UN staff, local governments, civil society and others who expressed an interest in taking this course.

The learning objectives of the course are:
1. To describe the rationale behind the need for Governments to engage with major groups and other stakeholders in formulating and reviewing SDG policies;
2. To learn how to map key national stakeholders with a special focus on those who are the furthest behind;
3. To assess the relevance of different models of engagement practiced by other countries as part of VNRs in their respective countries;
4. To identify practical ways to engage with key national stakeholders, including vulnerable groups, in the context of preparations for VNRs;
5. To develop long-term strategies for ensuring continuous stakeholder engagement as part of regular national review processes for the SDGs.

The MOOC is structured in three modules:
• Module 1. Understanding the need for stakeholder engagement in the 2030 Agenda at the national level
• Module 2. Learning about approaches and tools for strengthening stakeholder engagement for the SDGs
• Module 3. Designing successful strategies for stakeholder engagement in national implementation and review processes for Agenda 2030

[HLPF Side Event] Launch of the Online Technology Platform – 2030 Connect

Rebuilding Better with STI During COVID-19: Leveraging the Technology Facilitation Mechanism

The event is organized by UNDESA, UNCTAD and OICT, with support of other members of the UN Inter-agency Task Team on STI for the SDGs, and other network members. The event will bring representatives of governments, the UN, development partner organizations and other STI stakeholders.

The meeting would also invite high-level representatives of partner institutions that agree to exchange their respective technology databases. It will launch the Online Technology Platform – 2030 Connect in the context of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism and COVID-19.  It will be a new starting point for feedback and support, discussing key challenges and opportunities towards the full operationalization of the Platform in the next phase.

[Deadline to Register] UN Women Multi-Stakeholder Hearing

In accordance with UN General Assembly resolution 73/340, a high-level meeting of the General Assembly will be held in New York later in the year, with the overall theme: ‘Accelerating the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.’

Registration for ECOSOC-accredited NGOs for the online Multi-Stakeholder Hearing Accelerating the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls is open until 10 July 2020. Please ask interested representatives to register as soon as possible in order to leave sufficient time for registration approval.

As part of the preparations for the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly in accordance with UN GA resolution 73/340, the President of the General Assembly, with the support of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women), will organize and preside over an interactive multi-stakeholder hearing, to ensure the active participation of multi-stakeholders in the process.

The multi-stakeholder hearing will be held on a virtual platform on 21 July 2020 from 10am – 6pm EDT. Due to technical limitations of the interactive online platform, the number of participants should not exceed three (3) representatives per organization. Online registration is mandatory via the INDICO registration system. We are not able to accept registrations by email.

Participants register themselves individually for the online event and will need to upload an official letter from the head of your organization or main UN representative as supporting documentation.

The Conference Focal Point in your organization will then be able to approve up to three (3) registrations made under your organization. Once the registration has been approved by your organization in INDICO, your representative will receive online participation details in the days prior to the event commencing.

COVID-19 is exposing and deepening the inequalities, discrimination and ageism that older persons and persons with disabilities experience every day. We need inclusive programmes and policies that address the rights of people of all ages to ensure we leave no one behind. This official side event to the 2020 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development will look at the COVID-19 experience to identify learnings and opportunities to build a more age and disability-inclusive world, and accelerate action to achieve the SDGs for all.

The next  NGO Committee on Financing for Development meeting will take place by Zoom  on July 1 from 1:00- 3:45 pm.  I am thrilled to share that Dr. Lester Salamon, Director of the Center for Civil Society Studies, Johns Hopkins University will be joining us from 2:00 – 2:45 pm to speak on “Philanthropication” a people-centered approach to development financing. We have extended our normal meeting time by 15 minutes as Dr. Salamon has requested a bit more time for his presentation.  
 
Dr. Salamon is a world renowned expert on civil society organizations and pioneered the empirical study of the nonprofit sector in the United States and has extended this work to other parts of the world. He has published more than 20 books including  Philanthropication thru Privatization: Building Permanent Endowments for the Common Good (il Mulino Press) where he investigates a way to capture all or a portion of the enormous privatization transactions under way around the world for autonomous charitable endowments serving the social and economic needs of citizens. Please review the background documents uploaded to the shared folder and do come prepared with questions and to engage in the conversation.

Launch of the Toolkit on Stakeholder Engagement for the Implementation of UNTOC

You’re invited to the launch of the UNODC Toolkit on Stakeholder Engagement for the Implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), the Protocols Thereto and the Review Mechanism.

The Toolkit, which is a collaborative effort of relevant UNODC offices, will serve as a resource for training non-governmental stakeholders with the view to contribute to the implementation of the UNTOC, and prepare them for meaningful participation in the review process. Ultimately, the Toolkit is expected to help non-governmental stakeholders develop strategies for response to transnational organized crime, including how they could best engage with their governments and build cross-cutting partnerships among themselves and with UNODC.
