NGO CSW68 Parallel Event
March 14, 2024
10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST
“The Effect of Poverty and Abuse on Women Across the Life Course”
A panel of experts will explore the impact of a lifetime of poverty compounded by violence, neglect, and abuse. The impact of disability, conflict situations, and widowhood on poverty will be examined. This parallel event will examine the role of structural inequities and disparities on the cumulative experience of older women and the resulting impact of actualizing human rights in health, safety, housing, and economic security.
Panelists will provide strategic advocacy insights and examples of best practices to highlight ways to remedy and move forward. These can include approaches to counter detrimental outcomes, with special consideration for the inclusion of older women in policy development and implementation at the local levels. This session will remind attendees of the intersectionality of economic deprivation and gender inequality throughout the life span, with the imperative for all of us to work individually and collaboratively toward social justice for all.
