Key Issues for Developing Countries at the OECD Inclusive Framework Negotiations on the Taxation of the Digital Economy

The South Centre and the Global Alliance for Tax Justice invite you to a webinar titled Build Your House on Your Own Pillars: Key Issues for Developing Countries at the OECD Inclusive Framework Negotiations on the Taxation of the Digital Economy. The webinar will feature prominent voices of the Global South, including negotiators in the Inclusive Framework, who will share their views on the key issues for developing countries in the “Two Pillar Approach” on taxing the digitalized economy. It seeks to introduce a new taxing right in Pillar One focused on reforms to existing nexus and profit allocation rules, while Pillar Two is focused on a global minimum tax. The Two Pillar approach aims to introduce new elements into international taxation, such as limited formulary apportionment, multilateral dispute resolution and the allocation of taxing rights through a multilateral agreement. There are several pending issues which need resolution and are of importance to developing countries.

The webinar will be a panel discussion followed up with a Question-and-Answer session.

The way forward: developing gender-sensitive treatment programs to eradicate barriers for women

Side-event to the 64th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs

Women who use drugs face specific barriers that limit their access to recovery programs. The online event will review ways to remove these barriers and improve their adherence to treatment. It will feature an infographic prepared for this event, and emphasize the need to focus on women’s needs in strategies and policies and will offer an Action Plan for a way forward – while highlighting best practice examples from different world regions.

Addressing GBV: a Key Element in Gender-Sensitive Addiction Treatment Programs

Free online event in English – Monday, 22 March 2021, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST (NY time), 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. CET (España)

Women with substance use disorders face many obstacles in accessing and engaging in addiction treatment programs. Considering that gender-based violence is an initiating or aggravating factor of substance use disorder, it is imperative to address this complex relation in a holistic manner. Within male-dominated environments, where gender aspects are frequently overlooked, women who experience GBV and substance use disorders find it difficult to address this problem effectively. This parallel event will explore the links between GBV and substance use disorders and will shed light on how gender-sensitive programs address GBV as a key element in the therapeutic process.
