From Commitment to Impact: Civil Society Contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals
July 13, 2026 — The Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO) is pleased to announce the launch of their new report, From Commitment to Impact: Civil Society Contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals, presenting the findings of the 2026 member survey on SDG initiatives in collaboration with TruMerit and the Pan-Pacific and Southeast Asia Women’s Association (PPSEAWA).
Drawing on responses from CoNGO member organizations around the world, this report highlights the essential role that civil society plays in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. In their unique position, NGOs and civil society organizations fill gaps in SDG implementation through grassroots advocacy, partnership-building coalitions, knowledge creation, and community engagement. The responses received offer compelling evidence of how NGOs are transforming global commitments into tangible results across regions and sectors, in the face of persisting outside challenges to multilateralism that continue to limit impact.
As critical discussions on the future of sustainable development and multilateral cooperation continue, this report demonstrates that civil society is not simply a stakeholder in the SDGs—it is a strategic partner in achieving them.
CoNGO invites all interested to read the report and use its findings to strengthen collective advocacy for greater recognition, investment, and support for civil society’s contributions to sustainable development.
