Open Forum on CSW67

Join the NGO Committee on the Status of Women/NY on Wednesday, November 16, at 9am to learn more about CSW67, coming up in March 2023!

We’ll address the following during the Open Forum:

  • CSW67 priority and review themes;
  • Overview of the UN CSW process;
  • Ways to participate in the NGO CSW67 Forum and the different events that will be happening;
  • How to promote your work or organization at the Forum.

We’ll also have a Q&A session at the end to answer all of your questions on the CSW67, NGO CSW67 Forum, Parallel Events, Exhibit Booths and Handbook Ads, and our new and improved virtual portal.

United Nations International Day of Older Persons (IDOP2022)–Commemoration in Vienna

Hybrid Commemoration of the UN International Day of Older Persons

In 1990, the United Nations’ General Assembly voted to establish October 1st as the International Day of Older Persons [IDOP] (GA Res. 45/106). Each year, the Vienna-based NGO Committee on Ageing organises a commemoration event in early October.
This year’s Vienna event will be celebrated in the afternoon of Monday, 3 October 2022 starting at 13:30, in the main hall of the ÖJAB-Haus (Untere Augartenstrasse 31, 1020 Wien).
The UN-wide general theme of the upcoming IDOP commemoration is “The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women”. You and your colleagues may also register to attend in person. However, those wishing to attend via online are kindly asked to register via this Zoom link.
The event starts at 13:30 hours and finishes at 16:00 hours, after which refreshments will be served. There is an opportunity to follow the parallel IDOP event at UN headquarters which starts at 10:00 hours New York time (16:00 hours Vienna time) via a large TV screen at the OJAB-Haus.

U.N. International Day of Older Persons (IDOP2022)-Commemoration at UN Headquarters in New York

The United Nations International Day of Older Persons aims to enshrine and promote the rights of older persons, and to engage and mobilize advocates to protect those rights.

UNIDOP 2022 will involve a multi-stakeholder dialogue aimed to address the socioeconomic, environmental, and health experiences of older women, highlight their participation in helping to build resilient societies, and the importance of their full inclusion in policy development.

Where: ECOSOC Chamber (OR LIVE on webtv.un.org). In-person participants, please use the UN Headquarters Visitors’ entrance on First Avenue and 46th Street.

Language: ASL will be provided in English only; Closed captioning will be provided on UN Web-TV in English at media.un.org

UN Security: Security screening begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. at the Visitor’s entrance on 46th Street and 1st Avenue. Information will be provided on picking up a temporary grounds pass. A government-issued photo ID is required for this process. Wearing a mask is recommended. Proof of vaccination is not required.

NGO CSW67 Forum

The sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place from 6 to 17 March 2023.

Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are invited to contribute to the session.

The format of the NGO CSW67 Forum will be hybrid (both virtual and in-person). Check NGO CSW/NY’s website periodically for more information about the NGO CSW67 Forum and UN CSW67.

Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls

CSW67 Review Theme:

The Resilience of Older Women and Climate Change

Older Women and Environmental Justice: An NGO CSW66 Forum Parallel Event

Older Women and Environmental Justice

A panel of experts on environmental justice and women will specifically address the impact of climate risk and disasters on the lives of older persons. This parallel event will examine the role of structural inequities on health, safety, housing, water and sanitation as uniquely experienced by older women.

Current efforts to counter associated detrimental outcomes will be highlighted, with special consideration of the inclusion of older woman in development of coordinated responses to risk and disaster reduction.

This session will remind attendees of the intersectionality of environmental justice, climate change and older women, and the imperative to foster environmental resilience by working individually and collaboratively toward justice for all.
